Being in the facial recognition space we see a lot of news come through every week. We decided to try and compile a list of some of the best and most interesting news for our customers sprinkled in with what we are working on as well.
Our Favorite Story of the Week
Helping the Faceless
Facial recognition gets its fair share of bad press. Constant references to Minority Report and Big Brother are common. At Kairos we believe in the power of recognition and how that can be used to help society, not just let you in a door or catch a bad guy. To that end, we were drawn to a story we read this week about two guys in India who are using facial recognition to make a difference in the world and help end child-trafficking.

Face detection can let you dunk on LeBron!
The latest version of Eletronic Arts' NBA video game, NBA 2K15, lets you add your own likeness as a 3D avatar within the game. 3D face detection is used through the Playstation and Xbox cameras to build a model of your face and a realistic avatar you can use to play the game. Link
New way to unlock your phone
Fast Company has an interesting article on unlocking your phone with faces. This isn't what you think it is. Very interesting take on the power of human facial recognition. Link
Can clouds fool facial recognition engines?
We have a facial recognition service in the cloud, but this is ridiculous! Incidentally, we did test these images against our own engine and are proud to report we weren't fooled. Link
Kairos Update
Product Hunt Miami
Kairos is proud to be sponsoring and organizing Product Hunt's Miami meet up on 10/17 at The Lab Miami.
A recent Y Combinator alum, Product Hunt has rapidly become the best place on the internet for discovering the latest mobile apps, websites and tech creations.
Come join us to meet fellow product hunters, local startups and NewMe’s Angela Benton for a conversation on Product Hunt, how West Coast success stories are created and how they can be replicated locally. NewMe will offer $140K in prizes to the startup that receives the most upvotes from the audience.
Oh, did we mention there will be free chicken and waffles?
The event is free but space is limited so don’t forget to RSVP.
We hope you can make it! Link
As always, if you creating something cool or interesting with the Kairos API let us know and we will feature it in a future newsletter or on the website. No matter what, we would love to hear your feedback.
